NIKRF researcher Dr Anne Meaklim wins SAS Community Interface Award

Dr Anne Meaklim, an anaesthetist whose research is funded by the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF), has won the prestigious SAS Community Interface Award at the Northern Ireland SAS Recognition Awards on 1 October 2026.

Organised by the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA), the awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of SAS doctors and dentists across Northern Ireland. The Community Interface category recognises work connecting healthcare with communities, including community engagement, outreach and improving access to care.

Anne was also nominated for the SAS Postgraduate Educator Award.

Her NIKRF funded research focuses on delayed graft function (DGF), when a transplanted kidney takes time to start working properly. She is working to develop and validate a measure that reflects patients’ experiences, helps predict clinical outcomes and is practical for use in patient care and research.

Alongside her research, Anne supports NIKRF as a volunteer at Bob’s, contributing her time to the charity’s community activities.

Everyone at NIKRF is delighted to see Anne’s contribution recognised. We are proud to support her research and grateful for her commitment to the charity and the wider kidney community.

Congratulations Anne, from all of us at NIKRF!
