Meet the Team – Kidney Sparks

Nicky, Danielle, Emma, Katie, and Christina are all based at the Centre for Public Health (CPH), Queen’s University Belfast.

Nicky is the team leader.  She is a Research Fellow exploring how dietary patterns influence cognitive and cardiovascular ageing, physical function, and fall prevention.

Danielle investigates how diet relates to health conditions throughout life.

Emma works within the Administrative Data Research Centre Northern Ireland, with research interests in health inequalities, maternal health, and nutrition.

Katie is a Lab Technician in the Molecular and Epigenetic Labs, analysing samples to understand how lifestyle can affect health at the genetic level.

Christina is a Research Assistant with a primary focus on school food systems, alongside interests in weight management, and diabetes prevention.

‘The team is running the marathon in support of the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF) — turning a personal challenge into something much bigger by raising awareness and funds for a cause that impacts people they work with and care about. With kidney disease on the rise, they’re passionate about supporting NIKRF’s work in helping patients across Northern Ireland, raising awareness, and contributing to prevention efforts.’
