Hannah Helps the charity Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF) Shine a Light on Kidney Disease

Belfast, Monday 9^th December – Miss Northern Ireland, renal nurse Hannah Johns, spent an unforgettable day at the Belfast Hospital for Sick Children alongside the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF), her chosen charity. The visit aimed to raise awareness about kidney disease and support the incredible work of NIKRF in providing care and research for affected children and families.

Hannah’s day began in the hospital foyer, where she teamed up with Bella, NIKRF’s beloved kidney-themed mascot cow, to sell Christmas cards designed by patients and supporters. The festive fundraiser brought smiles to visitors and staff alike, showcasing the creativity and resilience of young patients who are being supported with vital research and care initiatives from this local volunteer led charity.

The highlight of the day was Hannah’s visit to Barbour Ward, where she met with a family directly impacted by kidney disease. Dionne is a mother whose son recently received a life-saving kidney transplant and whose daughter is currently on dialysis while awaiting a dual kidney and liver transplant.

“The courage of these children and their families is beyond inspiring,” Hannah said. “Today has opened my eyes to the challenges they face and the critical importance of supporting kidney research and care in Northern Ireland. I’m so proud to work with NIKRF to make a difference.”

Hannah’s involvement with NIKRF has brought fresh attention to the organization’s ongoing mission to advance kidney disease research, provide support to affected families, and promote organ donation awareness.
